A Cultural-Historical Exploration of the Zaan Bend
This morning, I spoke on behalf of Hotspot Wormerveer visitzaanbocht.nl with Hilde Bloemers , Heritage Advisor for the Municipality of Zaanstad. Work is currently underway on a cultural-historical study of the Zaanbocht, titled “Life on the Zaan.”
Over the past 15 to 20 years, the Zaanbocht area has undergone positive development. A new dynamic has been set in motion, bringing a sense of pride to the areas of housing, work, shopping, and tourism. Furthermore, the area is on the verge of a transformation in these areas and is poised to become the fourth hotspot in the Zaan region.
Hotspot has established important connections with all parties, stakeholders, and municipalities. Many of our insights and recommendations have been incorporated into the current Maak Noord plans.
In our "Hotspot Wormerveer" vision, we have outlined key values in our residential and commercial areas, including nostalgic, functional, spatial, and experiential values.
A comprehensive municipal vision for the area, complete with an implementation plan for the Zaanbocht, is also important here: How do you view the area, and with what boldness and ambition can you truly make it succeed as the "Pearl of the Zaan," and how do you get all stakeholders on board with these new plans?
