Redesign of Zaanweg-Oost

The redevelopment of Zaanweg-Oost in Wormerveer has been postponed because the quay wall is in poor condition in several places. The municipality of Zaanstad announced this in a letter to residents.

The plan was to proceed with the redevelopment of Zaanweg as soon as possible after the new Zaan Bridge is completed in 2024. However, before that section can be addressed, the quay wall must first be repaired. This means that the redevelopment will be postponed until 2028–2029.

However, in November and December, the municipality will begin work on the section of Zaanweg east of the Zaan Bridge, where the temporary bridge across the river was located. New road markings will be added, and the road will also be narrowed for safety reasons. In addition, the parking spaces will be restored, and new trees will be temporarily planted in planters. The trees that were removed to make way for the temporary bridge will be replanted when Zaanweg-Oost is renovated.

This section, too, is an important part of the redevelopment of the Zaan Riverfront in Wormerveer, featuring beautiful buildings, restaurants, and the entrance to the lovely Wilhelmina Park!
